AWANA WILL BE STARTING SEPTEMBER 29
What is AWANA
AWANA is an international, nondenominational, Bible-centered youth organization providing weekday clubs and programs for three year olds through 6th grade. The word AWANA comes from the first letters of Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed (2 Tim 2:15). AWANA strongly emphasizes memorizing and understanding scripture. Psalm 119:11 says, Thy (God's) Word (the Bible) have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee. The Bible teaches that studying (2 Tim 2:15) and memorizing God's Word are keys to winning the battle against sin. The Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Heb 4:12). Our children discover that the verses they learn in AWANA help them live Christ-honoring lives.
AWANA Club Segments
- Council Time:
During this segment the AWANA leaders teach a Bible lesson, clubbers sing and important announcements are made.
- Handbook Time:
During this segment clubbers work in their individual handbook learning and reciting sections. Each handbook contains approximately 90 verses to support Bible truths.
- Game Time:
Game Time is the club segment when clubbers are involved in fun games. The games encourage Christian sportsmanship, fellowship, cooperation, team spirit and friendship. All clubbers are assigned to a color team. The color team that accumulates the most points for the night is the winning team. All children are expected to participate in game time unless a parent communicates otherwise.
Who, Where, When
AWANA is for children aged 3 to grade 6 and they can register the first night they attend. The 3 and 4 year old AWANA Cubbies class meets at the church.
The K-6 grade AWANA clubbers meet at Meadowview Elementary on 195th.
Both groups start at 6:45 pm on Wednesday nights.

Dear Parents,
I would like to welcome you and your child to the AWANA Club program at Bible Baptist Church. The name AWANA is an acrostic which stands for "Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed" and is taken from II Timothy 2:15. You will find that AWANA provides a special place for your children to make new friends, play exciting games, compete in rewarding and challenging contests, receive awards as reinforcement for their good performance and have opportunities to learn and memorize God's Word, the Bible.
This booklet is designed to provide you with the basic information that you need to know and share with your children on how AWANA operates. The staff of AWANA is composed of volunteer workers who are very much concerned about the spiritual and social development of the clubbers. Each clubber is very special to us and to God! The staff is trained by the AWANA organization and is excited to have the opportunity to minister to your child.
Your assistance as parents is very important for your children to get the most out of AWANA. You can help your children by encouraging them to come each week, by helping them to memorize sections each week, by showing excitement over their achievements and by communicating any special needs with us. Clubbers may get extra points if their parents have listened to and initialized their "sections".
Together we are parents in ministry with children. We would suggest that you spend 4 to 6 minutes a day reading or reviewing "sections" for the greatest retention. Do it together with your child and your clubber will know you care for them and about what is important to them. Some AWANA parents have found this time can be expanded into a fun and exciting time of family devotions each evening! Many school teachers have testified that AWANA has helped children in school work and parents often comment about changed attitudes when clubbers and parents do work together!
We welcome you to visit our club meetings anytime, especially on the special parent's nights. Our desire is that AWANA can be a fun, growing experience for your child...one they are not likely to soon forget!

PARENT MANUAL
2010-2011
HOW PARENTS CAN HELP
We are so glad to have your child in AWANA this year. We sincerely desire that his or her club experience will be full of fun and learning. You can have an important part in this! In order for your child to get the most out of the AWANA program, you as a parent must be willing to help. Your partnership with us in helping your child succeed is essential. Here are some practical suggestions:
1. Bring your child to AWANA consistently and on time. Club begins promptly at 6:45 PM. Clubbers may arrive as early as 6:30 PM. Club ends at 8:15 PM. Please be prompt in picking up your child.
2. Encourage your child to come to Club prepared by: wearing the AWANA uniform and bringing his or her handbook and Bible.
3. Help your child prepare for Club each week by spending time at home reading and reviewing handbook material. You might even consider learning handbook sections yourself! This will demonstrate to your child how important memorizing God’s word is to you.
4. Encourage your child as handbook sections are passed! Achievement is hard work. When you sense your child is giving up, remind him or her of the rewards that await those who persevere.
5. Help your child participate in our special theme nights. Theme nights help boys and girls look forward to coming to AWANA. On those nights that require “special” preparations, please encourage your child to participate. Please refer to the attached “Special Events” calendar for our theme nights.
6. Feel free to share with us your questions, concerns and ideas.
7. Visitors: Please provide contact information.
8. Please advise secretary of any food allergies.

AWANA BEHAVIOR GUIDELINES
In order for our AWANA Club to be a safe and fun learning environment for all the clubbers, we have established the following guidelines. Parents should read these together with their child.
Arrive on time. AWANA begins at 6:45 pm. Please arrive a few minutes early for check in so that you will be ready to begin on time.
Come prepared. Always bring your Bible, handbook or entrance booklet and wear your uniform if you’ve earned one. Self-discipline and self-esteem are developed through the learning of God’s word.
Participation. All our children are involved in playing games, memorizing scripture and listening during council time. We require that children stay with their leaders in their age level club at all times and never leave the school grounds without permission.
Be a good listener. We want every child to have a safe enjoyable time at club. Remember to quiet down and come to attention whenever a leader begins to count to 5.
Show respect to others at all times. Treat everyone like you wish to be treated. You will be asked to sit on the sideline during games if you are disrespectful and do not play by the rules.
Respect and take care of school property and club equipment.
Label personal belongings. Make sure your first and last names are written on any item you bring to AWANA.
